THE DAY I MET...

The Day I met Peter 'Phoebe' Freestone

Dave Hammond

"The day I met Peter 'Phoebe' Freestone. This is a name that most of you probably won't recognize unless you are a fan of Queen. Peter Freestone was the late great Freddie Mercury's personal assistant and close friend for the last 12 years of his life and was even beside Freddie's deathbed when he passed in November 1991 at the age of 45. Peter was here to endorse the It's A Kinda Magic Queen tribute show a few years back and I had the honor of interviewing him. He gave me insights into the life of possibly the greatest male singer that has ever lived and only spoke highly of Freddie both as a person and naturally as a performer. This guy was part of Freddie's inner circle and traveled with him wherever he went. This must go down as one of the most fulfilling interviews I have ever done being a massive fan of Queen and their music and they have just released a compilation of his solo work entitled " Never Boring " which hi-lights his work away from Queen. If I remember correctly it was Collett Dawson whom I have to thank for arranging this many years ago. It was a day I will never forget."
