Number 32. The day we met Ali Campbell of UB40. This was taken in July 2007 at the Live Earth Press conference. Amongst the artists that performed at the festival at the Dome was UB40, Joss Stone, Angelique Kidjo as well as local artists like the Parlotones and Danny K. Super model Naomi Campbell was one of the presenters. Live Earth was founded by Emmy winning producer Kevin Wall and former US President Al Gore as a means to create environmental awareness through entertainment.

 

Johannesburg was one of 11 locations throughout the world that had a benefit concert on 7 July 2007. We bumped into Ali just as he was leaving the press conference and about to climb into his ride back to the hotel so we asked him if he had time for a quick photo and he was all too glad to oblige. UB40 have been back to SA many times since but this is the only time I managed to meet at least one of them.
